Greetings, everyone!
We have a number of announcements for things that have just happened, are happening now, and will happen soon on Hammel! We have been open for about two months, and we have hit the ground running and settled some roots. I could not be more pleased with what an excellent start we are up to with our (re)launch.
First, and perhaps most importantly, Hammel wishes a sincere welcome to our new members: Ally, Abe, Drastic, and Paint!
To make plotting easier (and to get into the habit), here is a list of our new characters accepted this past month: Valerie Norville (Ally), Micah and Moses Grey (Abe), Alaska Baker (Drastic), Dr. Jay Murdoch (Paint), Declan O'Cassidy (Abe), and Moonie Hayes (Drastic).
Next, we have our winners from the first of our monthly creative challenges. Our November 2019 Writing Challenge winner was "Congratulations" by Sean, and the 2019 Graphics Challenge winner was Abe's banner entry. Bragging rights are unlocked, and a new skin featuring Abe's banner will appear soon.
With snowfall and a new month, we have a winter default skin. Our apple theme is still available in our theme/skin choices, found in your profile settings.
Our newWriting Challenge and Graphics Challenge have been posted and are open for entries until a few days before the end of the month. This month's writing challenge is "Happy Holidays!" and our Graphics Challenge is "Winter Wonderland". If we receive enough participation, then there will be challenge polls, so please participate.
We have many events and plots on the horizon!
First, let’s have a roundup of the current events and open plots still ongoing on Hammel:
-First, the annual Hammel Thanksgiving is currently occurring in the cafeteria, and is open to all students, staff and faculty, and their families if they remained in Pilot Ridge over the weekend. The thread has no post order and takes place on Friday, November 29, 2019. Please have your character stop in for a buffet meal and some scintillating conversation with peers.
-The school year is underway and there is an open staff thread in the faculty lounge discussing the frustrations of powers training. This is for trainers only, and if you want to make a trainer and have them join, by all means please do.
-The GSA has an open thread for student members to brainstorm a service project. If your student character might join the GSA, you are welcome to post in the thread.
-Similarly, the Student Activities Council has an open thread to decompress from the Halloween dance and to look forward to the Valentine's Day dance and Spirit Week in the next semester. If your student is a member or might want to join, you are welcome to participate.
-Our December events have begun. The 2019 Annual Boys vs. Girls Snow War is open to all students and any staff on campus who might want to participate. It takes place the second weekend of December.
-The 2019 Holiday Bash is open to all adult residents of Pilot Ridge (locals and Hammel staff) and occurs on Saturday, December 21, 2019. The location is the Four Chimneys Inn downtown, and this year's charity is Pathways Vermont. Join to eat, drink, and be merry!
-Chalina Noriega is convinced that there are ghosts haunting Hammel, and also that Mr. Ettinger is demon-possessed and wants to put together a paranormal mystery squad to investigate. You can join here.
-Although it is winter now, summer is just around the corner, and the Mayor's Office has opened applications for their 2020 summer interns. Interns must be 18+ and will be paid $15/hour for their participation. Please follow the instructions to apply.
-Hammel will put together a winter concert. Please contact music teacher and choir advisor James Fawcett for suggestions and to participate. If there is enough interest, we will open a thread.
-Hammel will put on a spring musical, and we will take suggestions. Try-out details to follow in January. Suggestions will be open.
-We have an Open Thread list. If you are looking for a new thread, use it as a resource. If you make an open thread, please post the link so that others can join you.
-Players are encouraged to enroll their students in clubs and to have club threads. These can be created by players of faculty advisers or of student members. The more, the merrier.
-There is a thread for matching students and powers trainers. Please post there to find your match. We presently have two trainers: Vincent Meian (played by Kallisti) and Tiberius Hill (played by Oreo). We are always seeking new trainers.
-We now have a Guide to Vermont with information about the state including fauna, agriculture and the economy, and historical and cultural facts.
-Coming soon: a list of Mayor Bernstein's decrees since assuming office in January.
-Coming soon: Our first major site event.
