Don't Wanna Work, Just Wanna Bang on the Drum All Day (open)

Cole was often doing multiple things at one. Like, all the time. 

Currently, he was making a flyer for the Christmas season, advertising the various sales, drumming out a beat with the hand not currently on the computer key, glancing every so often at the textbook to his right, open to a page about ethics in journalism, while taking bites of his dinner (a black bean and rice veggie bowl), and also sneaking a bit of cranberry vodka from the flask under the cashier now and then. 

He still had an hour left of work before he had to run to class and then figure out which club he would be gracing his presence with that evening. Of course he would need to swing by the house to change and adjust his makeup, but there was plenty of time for that. Always plenty of hours in the day.

He didn't bother to look up right away when he heard the bell announcing someone had opened the front door, waiting for his ability to tell him whether it was a customer or one of his co-workers.

The record player sitting in his little living room had been collecting dust. There had been times where he’d been determined to get that thing up and running, but, between working and keeping his little farm going, he hadn’t the time to stop by the music store to see their records.

He’d made time to stop by today. After only working until noon, he was dressed in a flannel and jeans and boots, all dirty from hours filled with dropping horses to castrate. There was an attempt to dust himself off before going inside but the effort was rather futile. Oh well. He didn’t want to miss this little free time.

The bell rang as he pushed the door open. A quick survey around the store immediately told him that he was a tad out of his element, but seeking assistance had him spotting someone familiar. They had only just met not too long ago but that didn’t stop Jay from smiling like he was seeing an old friend.

”Hey man,” he greeted with a small wave. The vet made his way to the counter where Cole was. ”So I got a record player at home… old thing, but I figured it’s time t’ get somethin’ for it t’ play. But also, I got a really, really dumb question: are records ‘n’ vinyl the same thing?”

Realizing that it was a customer, Cole slid his textbook under the counter. Not that the clientele of the music store generally cared if he was doing some homework on the side, but best if he didn't give any reason for the anyone to complain to his boss.

"Dr. Jay!" Cole said, excited to see his new band mate. Not that he knew the other man very well, but he was excited to get to know him, his musically ability, and maybe find out just how many tattoos the man had hiding under his clothes. 

Cole leaned across the counter grinning as he listened to the other man. "Records! Wonderful. We've got all sorts." He gestured to the wall  along one side of the music store. "Are you looking for something more vintage or new stuff? Would you believe that people are still releasing their stuff on vinyl?" Though Cole enjoyed records, he wasn't one of those 'records are the only way you can listen to music' types. 

"No dumb questions here!" Cole added with a smile. He hated that some stores he had been to always made people feel like they were idiots, or that the weren't even good enough to shop there, because they didn't have ultimate knowledge of music that the store owner thought they should. Who cares if they can list the third track of The Rolling Stones' Exile on Main Street? The important part was that they were excited about expanding their musical library and knowledge. "Actually records are made on vinyl. But lots of people call them different things, records, vinyls, albums, whatever. Potay-toes, potat-toes, ya know?"

"So what are you in the market for?" Cole said, coming around the counter now to lead Jay toward the records in the store. "Classic Motown? 80's hits? Or some smooth Jazz for an evening of romance? The number of a hot guy to listen to it all with?"

Really if Cole was going to worry about anything that would get him in trouble with his boss, it should probably be his constant flirting with anyone who walked through the door.

Vintage or new - well, what was he looking for? He hadn’t quite concluded what he wanted to search for other than to simply search. Jay’s taste in music ranged just as broadly as “vintage or new” and the radio presets in his truck proved it: classic rock, country, pop, alternative rock, bluegrass, classical, just depended on his mood or which station wasn’t stuck on commercials. But which of those would he want to have on vinyl?

Which, it turned out, vinyls and records were the same thing. ”Ohh,” he hummed quietly, nodding, thankful that Cole was so chill about a question he probably got a thousand times each day.

His bandmate came out from around the counter with the inevitable question that Jay wasn’t so certain about and that characteristic charm which he was learning to be Cole’s personality. Jay snorted, amused, but the thought was nice to spend an evening with someone. ”If only,” he replied, shaking his head just slightly before continuing. ”Anyway, I like a bit’f everythin’. But I guess… maybe for the sake’f havin’ somewhere t’ start, AC/DC? But really I’m open t’ anythin’. I’m open t’ recommendations, too.”
