Scott has the ability to communicate with any and all forms of technology, including machinery, computers, and other electronics. He has to be touching some component of the machine and cannot use WiFi for this form of communication. He can be touching something that uses WiFi and ask it to pass along the message however, but the message can get distorted, like playing a game of telephone. Though Scott can communicate with all forms of technology, each new form requires him to put in a bit of training before he can make himself understood. He equates it to similar to learning a new dialect. Sometimes its harder than others to learn for him. On his own, Scott has no real technological super human abilities and he cannot force an electronic to work if it is broken simply by touching it, have it do something beyond its normal ability, or force it to do something it doesn't want to do. As long as the electronic is not completely dead, he can figure out if it has a problem, and using his normal human ability, use the communication to fix the problem. Similar to how a doctor might ask where it hurts and if something feels better or worse.
Scott suffers from migraine if he uses his ability for too long. He also struggles with language a lot and finding words, especially after he has been talking to technology for an extended time. Oddly enough, he finds that communicating with ASL is hardly affected by this and chalks it up to muscle memory. Often when he's looking for a word, his hands will start making the sign without him realizing it. Though not actually a side effect, Scott also blames the fact that he was never able to master swimming on his ability.

The Details
Hair Color: Dark Brown (starting to go gray)
Eye Color: Blue
Height: 6 foot
Any Piercings? none
Any Tattoos? none
Any Scars?
General Appearance: Though Scott dyed his hair for a few years, he learned to accept the gray and embrace the "wise old man" look. Though he does have nice clothes, much to the embarrassment of his children, he loves a graphic tee, the more ridiculous the better. Even his more low-key pattern shirts are usually something ridiculous (like a bear on a unicycle) once you get up close to the pattern. Scott also has extremely bad eyesight and is never seen without his glasses unless he is in bed.
Scott may be the worlds biggest klutz. He his always tripping over his own two feet, knocking things over, bumping into objects. He never get seriously injured, just a few scraps and some stubbed toes, but chances are if there's a spill or a loud noise from something falling over, it's his fault.
Though he's getting older, Scott is still very active and though he might let out some dad groans now and then, he's pretty limber for his age.
Scott was born in the South and still has his southern accent. It gets thicker if he's tired or sick. This only complicates his ability to speak clearly.
Personality:
Scott is really just a big kid. He's a goofball who can cause just as much trouble as his children sometimes. This leads him to be the more lenient of the two fathers when it comes to discipline because he would often rather join in their antics than to punish them. That's not to say that he is a complete pushover. When it comes to something that might actually be dangerous, Scott is quick to stop the situation. He's a bit of a scared-y cat when it comes to real danger and is also extremely easy to startle, something his children often take advantage of.
Scott is never afraid to show his love, whether that's with his kids, the students at Hammel, his co-workers, or a person on the street. He's a big hugger, hand-holder, pat on the back kind of guy. He's not afraid to let his emotions show and will definitely cry at cute commercials and sad movies.
Scott is a real family man. He loves to throw huge parties for his kids on their birthdays and for all the holidays. His work desk is covered with pictures and trinkets his children have made for him over the years. He will tear up showing up family photos. And there are a lot of them to show off.
Scott also believes in giving back to the community. He makes sure all of his family is involved in Pilot Ridge giving back or volunteering in some way.

History
(Trigger Warnings: homophobia, child abuse)
Scott is the one and only child of Richard and Kathy Asner. He grew up in the mountains of Southern Virginia in a very religious community. Before Scott even had the language to explain it, he knew that he was different from the other boys in his community. Though he tried his best to hide the fact that he was much more interested in the other boys than he was in the girls, Scott's father picked up on the fact that his son might be gay before Scott even really understood it. Richard was a drinker. And would often find excuses to punish Scott for not being man enough. Though Scott had no trouble helping out around the small farm they shared with Richard's brothers, he was never enough for his father. And his father was sure to tell let him know that no son of his was going to be a sissy. Whether that lesson was taught with hours of hard work past the daylight hours, witheld meals, the crack of a belt, or a fist. Richard was sure he would make a man out of his son.
Scott had his first crush on another boy when he was 12 and spent a year trying to hide his feelings and prayed each night that God would fix him. Between that and the abuse, Scott became a very withdrawn child who spent as much time alone as possible. When he did go out, it was to a local arcade in town. There he could still be around people without actually having to interact much. It was while he was playing one of the games that his power manifested. He found that all of the games were suddenly so easy, and several children gathered around and accused him of cheating. He ended up storming out of the arcade to avoid a fight.
It took about a week for someone to Hammel to show up. At first, Scott's father tried to fight against Scott leaving for the school, but the staff member was able to convince him without too much pressure. Scott, on the other hand, was over the moon. Not only was he able to get out from under his father, but for the first time in his life he felt like there might be something special about himself that was actually a thing to celebrate.
After his first summer back home, Scott started the new year back at square one. It was during his second year that he confided in the Hammel staff what his home life was like. After that, there was always an excuse for him to stay in Pilot Ridge over the summers. During his time at Hammel, Scott really thrived and started to come out of his shell. Though it took a longer time for him to deal with the internalized homophobia. Had he been home every summer, he probably would have never gotten the courage to come out. But surrounded by the love and support at Hammel, not to mention a few crushes he really wanted to admit his feelings to,, Scott was about to be out and proud during his final year at Hammel. After he broke the news to his parents, his father told him to never come back home. Though Scott hasn't really planned on it, it was hard to heard that the option was no longer available to him.
He lived a bit of a nomadic life for a few years, not sure if he should he should go to college and having a hard time finding where to call home. During his time in school, he had realized he was pretty good at fixing things and his power helped him a lot in that area. He attended a trade school for a couple years, learning not only more traditional machine and electrician work, but also diving into computers. It was extremely rewarding. And now that he had figured out a career, he just needed a place to put it in action.
It was around this time that Scott reconnected William. The two of them were living around Philadelphia at the time. Scott had known William at Hammel, but had always considered the other man way out of his league. William was athletic, came from from a huge, loving family, a whiz at everything Scott felt he failed out, and not to mentioned ridiculously handsome. Still, Scott felt they that they could at least be friends. The friendship developed into a best friendship, and then to Scott's complete surprise, something much more than that.
When the relationship started to get really serious and they wanted to take it to the next step, the pair returned to Pilot Ridge, Vermont to build a life together. The two also secured jobs at their alma matter. Though the two had talked about having children, something that William really wanted, Scott was worried that he would not know how to be a good father, or worse, somehow turn his father. His father had remained a dark cloud in his life. (Even after he had died, a year after Scott and William's marriage as soon as it was legal in Vermont, his mother had told Scott that the reason his father died was because of Scott's actions breaking his heart.) But eventually, they both decided to have a biological child each to complete their little family (William, getting a little bonus with twins).
But while working at Hammel, the two came in contact with Alec, a young trans student, who was dealing with transphobic parents. Scott's heartstrings were pulled. And William knew from the way Scott talked about Alec, that they would be taking the boy in. Though he was never officially adopted, they two consider Alec to be one of their own. With Alec in their lives, Scott and William started to think that maybe their family wasn't done growing just yet and started to take in other children. Though they hadn't originally planned to have so many, the two couldn't help but want to share the love.
