Greetings, everyone and welcome to 2020!
We have a number of announcements for things that have just happened, are happening now, and will happen soon on Hammel! We have been now been open for about three months, and we continue to grow steadily. I couldn't be happier.
First, and perhaps most importantly, Hammel wishes a sincere welcome to our new and/or returning members: Etch and Tundra!
To make plotting easier, here is a list of our new characters accepted this past month: Dante Castillo (Paint), Cole Scott (Abe), Marnie Sullivan (Etch), and Ryn Burns (Tundra)
Next, we typically would do our winners for our monthly challenges, but there was no vote because we received only one entry for each the writing challenge and the graphics challenge. As a result, congratulations to Oreo for her winning graphics entry, and to me for winning by default with my entry "Peace Like a River." Now that the holidays are behind us, I hope we will have more entries this month.
Our present site stats are as follows: We have 28 characters (18 male, 9 female, and 1 non-binary). Of those 28, we have 12 Hammel staff, 11 Hammel students, and 5 locals. 24 of our characters are powered and 4 are non-powered. Spread across those 24 are 27 different powers. Presently, telepathy is our most popular power with three characters, followed by empathy with two. Our oldest character is Wayne Dietrich (90) (played by Kallisti) while our youngest is Marlow Estes (14) (played by Oreo). Statistics do not include NPCs.
Our newWriting Challenge and Graphics Challenge have been posted and are open for entries until a few days before the end of the month. This month's writing challenge is "Change Thyself" and our Graphics Challenge is "Time In a Bottle". If we receive enough participation, then there will be challenge polls, so please participate.
We have many events and plots on the horizon!
First, Hammel is IC on winter break from Friday, December 20, 2019 until Tuesday, January 21, 2020, the day after Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Staff are off and can leave for vacation, and students can return home to their families for the duration of break. Any students without a place to go are able to remain on campus in their dormitories, and food service will remain in effect but with limited facility access. At least one dorm monitor will remain over break and a security guard.
Next, let’s have a roundup of the current events and open plots still ongoing on Hammel:
-First, the annual Hammel Thanksgiving is currently occurring in the cafeteria, and is open to all students, staff and faculty, and their families if they remained in Pilot Ridge over the weekend. The thread has no post order and takes place on Friday, November 29, 2019. Please have your character stop in for a buffet meal and some scintillating conversation with peers.
-The school year is underway and there is an open staff thread in the faculty lounge discussing the frustrations of powers training. This is for trainers only, and if you want to make a trainer and have them join, by all means please do.
-The GSA has an open thread for student members to brainstorm a service project. If your student character might join the GSA, you are welcome to post in the thread.
-Similarly, the Student Activities Council has an open thread to decompress from the Halloween dance and to look forward to the Valentine's Day dance and Spirit Week in the next semester. If your student is a member or might want to join, you are welcome to participate.
-Our December events have begun. The 2019 Annual Boys vs. Girls Snow War is open to all students and any staff on campus who might want to participate. It takes place the second weekend of December.
-The 2019 Holiday Bash is open to all adult residents of Pilot Ridge (locals and Hammel staff) and occurs on Saturday, December 21, 2019. The location is the Four Chimneys Inn downtown, and this year's charity is Pathways Vermont. Join to eat, drink, and be merry!
-Chalina Noriega is convinced that there are ghosts haunting Hammel, and also that Mr. Ettinger is demon-possessed and wants to put together a paranormal mystery squad to investigate. You can join here.
-Although it is winter now, summer is just around the corner, and the Mayor's Office has opened applications for their 2020 summer interns. Interns must be 18+ and will be paid $15/hour for their participation. Please follow the instructions to apply.
-Hammel will put on a spring musical, and we are taking suggestions. Please reply to this (IC) bulletin board thread with suggestions from your characters. We will then vote.
-We have an Open Thread list. If you are looking for a new thread, use it as a resource. If you make an open thread, please post the link so that others can join you.
-Players are encouraged to enroll their students in clubs and to have club threads. These can be created by players of faculty advisers or of student members. The more, the merrier.
-There is a thread for matching students and powers trainers. Please post there to find your match. We presently have two trainers: Vincent Meian (played by Kallisti) and Tiberius Hill (played by Oreo). We are always seeking new trainers.
-Coming soon: a list of Mayor Bernstein's decrees since assuming office in January 2019.
-Coming soon: Our first major site event. We will accept suggestions for site events.
We have some holiday games threads for development purposes. Feel free to share from your characters' POV:
-Hammel Giftsgiving: Did your character buy holiday gifts for anyone? Tell us what they bought and for whom.
-Hammel Winter Holidays: How did your characters spend the winter holidays? Tell us or share a vignette.
-IC New Year's Resolutions: Did your character make a resolution for 2020? Share with us.
