The Basics
Trigger Warning: Child abuse, violence, depression/PPD, pregnancy
Power Effects TW: Mentions of various severe injuries and illnesses as examples
Name: Nakia Meian-Kenjutsushi
Nicknames: Nik, Dr. Ken
Age: 43 (December 1975)
Pronouns: She/Her/Hers
Orientation: Heterosexual/Heteroromantic
Desired Rank/Job: Hammel On-Call Doctor
Powers: Biological Manipulation/Tactile Physiological Empathy: Nakia has two powers, both physical and psychic; the ability feel where people are physically hurting with a touch, and to manipulate the cells in their bodies into repairing themselves rapidly. The first power is a mental ability despite its touch component - like empathy, it is inherently psychic and requires shielding to prevent it from costantly being active. (As it only works when she is touching another person, this also means that thick layers of clothing can help protect her from utilizing it accidentally. However, this does not mean that it won't work without skin contact; this simply makes it more difficult to pinpoint precise sensations, like static on a radio that is just out of range.) The second power allows her to increase the rate at which cells heal and divide. Once again, she must be in contact with a person physically to use it, and skin contact provides the most accurate and efficient use of the ability. This ability is prone to equal exchange with her own body; fully healing someone else means taking their wounds upon herself instead.
Due to the level of ability she has, Nik can heal almost any injury. However, the more severe the injury, the more likely she is to be seriously injured or killed in the process of healing it. (As such, Nakia uses her powers relatively sparingly, tending to the worst of an injury and beginning its healing process rather than outright "fixing" everything.) She cannot heal permanent injuries (such as amputations, organ loss, or scar tissue), nor can she heal congenital illnesses beyond controlling immediate degeneration or other rapidly progressing illnesses (such as cancer, HIV, etc.)
When her powers are used in a controlled manner, common side effects are tiredness, lethargy, drops in blood sugar, minor applications of wounds/sickness that she is healing (light bruising, scratches, red marks, etc.), and temperature dropping in the area of contact. Her hands are always cold because of this. If her powers lash out in an uncontrolled manner, her body will take the full brunt of the injury or sickness that she is healing, whether it is life-threatening or not, in addition to these other side-effects. Regardless of use, multiple healing sessions will stack up and take a toll on her health, and she cannot heal herself at all.

The Details
Hair Color: White
Eye Color: Blue
Height: 5' 6"/168cm
Any Piercings? One stud in each earlobe
Any Tattoos? No
Any Scars? No
General Appearance: Nik is, first and foremost, an albino. It's the first thing people tend to notice about her, as she has shoulder-length snow white hair and very fair skin. Her eyes are a deep, brilliant blue that colors very much like a star sapphire; pale around the pupils and growing quickly darker at the edges. She is around 5' 6", very thin despite having two children, and appears very delicate. Her heritage is a mixed Japanese and Russian, giving her a much more European touch to her features than her children or husband. She has a rather slim shape, and a confident bearing befitting of the big city doctor she once was.
Dr. Nik's complexion is not helped by the fact that she tends to dress mostly in white and light blues, her favorite outfit being a sleeveless powder-blue turtleneck and white slacks. She wears little jewelry, mainly just her silver wedding ring and a pair of earrings her daughters gave her for Mother's Day four years back. Occasionally she will wear a special necklace Vincent gave her when they started dating, though it is very delicate and she is worried about breaking it. She also has a tenancy to wear broad-rimmed hats, though that is more to protect her skin from being burned than any fashion statement. An immaculate woman, Nik despises being dirty and keeps many changes of clothes on hand wherever she spends much of her time, even carrying a set in her briefcase. Her fingernails are short and well-kept, and her personal hygiene is nothing short of obsessive. The only time this is not the case is when she is gardening, and even then she cleans up promptly after finishing her work.
Personality: On the surface, Nik is a cool and logical person who cares little for the emotions behind the injuries she treats. She is authoritative, regal, and completely in control of her domain. She dislikes being disobeyed or questioned when in comes to her medical expertise, something that got her into a few minor messes when she was a resident doctor in Japan. In her work, she is uncompromising and direct, yet very understanding of her patient's psychology and religious views when prescribing treatment.
Underneath that, Nakia is a lively woman who enjoys laughing and engaging in battles of dry wit for fun. Pilot Ridge has melted away any remaining tentativeness in her personality, and children especially are able to see the softer side of her more often than not. She is kind and resourceful, and will do anything she can to help someone who is hurting. Her only regret is being unable to fully take away people's pain (both emotional and physical), as she cannot risk jeopardizing anyone else who may need her help.
If someone should cross her, however, they're in for a rough time. Nakia has an icy temper, starting off with sharp, barbed words and cold insults before escalating into thorough tongue lashings. At home, where she is safe to do so, she will vent her frustrations by yelling and occasionally throwing things - her husband, in fact, encouraged this practice as they were dating. Her family is very used to this, and no one gets hurt; she makes very sure of that, even in her fits of pique.

History
Nakia was born to a relatively middle-class family in Japan. Her mother was a Russian immigrant who taught at the local high school, and her father was a police officer of detective rank at the police station across town. She was born albino, something that is not considered attractive or wanted in Asia, so her parents tended to treat her distantly though not unwell. A year later, her brother Hatsuharu was born, giving them someone else to lavish attention on instead of her.
When Nik was about six, her parents started fighting; her father was working too many hours, teacher's salaries were cut for normal schools in favor of the "freak school" (as her mother called it) in the Tokyo prefecture. Tensions strained, and the children were caught in the middle. After two years, the children came home from school one day to find her mother gone. No note, no sign. When their father came home, he was furious, throwing furniture and dishes in a fit of rage. The children hid as they always had when their parents fought and rode out the storm.
Six weeks later, when their mother still hadn't returned, the beatings began. Their father would come home hours after his shifts had ended, stinking drunk and mad as Hell. At first, he hit them both, not caring which of them got in his way. Nik soon learned his patterns and hid her brother from sight when she heard her father coming up the stairs to their apartment so that she would take the beatings alone. She was nine years old.
The beatings continued until Nik was twelve. By this time, her brother stayed regularly after school often to participate in sports, making him the stronger and more athletic of the two. He came home one day to find their father beating his sister again and hit him hard with a baseball bat to the head. As soon as he struck, however, Nik cried out in pain with a splitting headache as a wound suddenly opened up in the same place her father had been struck. Bleeding badly, Nik struggled away from the man and realized that (while unconscious) he no longer bore any marks of being struck. The two fled from the house and never returned.
The first place they ran was the hospital for treatment. Nik explained the situation to the trauma nurse and signed herself in. When the doctor arrived, he examined her wounds and began treating them. When he touched her, however, she felt a tightness in her lungs and began to cough, feeling phlegm clogging her airways. The doctor immediately reexamined her and found that she had a mild case of emphysema - something the doctor himself had been diagnosed with many years ago. Upon putting her in a secure room and finishing treatment of her wounds, he rechecked his own file and ordered X-rays. When they arrived, he was shocked to discover his lungs were clearer than the day he had started smoking over twenty years ago.
Suffice to say, he called Eisai immediately.
The recruiter arrived the next day and gave Nik the opportunity she'd been waiting for - a school to help her control these frightening new powers and give her a direction so that they may help people without hurting her. The pair negotiated for them to teach her brother too, despite his lack of apparent ability, keeping the two of them together. And best of all, they could keep her father away from them. The choice was simple, and the siblings moved into the dorms the next day.
It took Nik almost five years to master her powers, though in the process she needed to create a mindset that kept her from being caught unawares again, turning her into a coldly clinical person whenever treating people without her powers. Due to both her abilities and the ease in which she picked up advanced lessons, Eisai helped her into a medical college, where she studied to be a general medical practitioner.
Just after her first year in college, she met Vincent Meian and the two built up a rapport, eventually dating at the end of that year. On her twentieth birthday, Vincent presented her with a finely crafted necklace he had commissioned for her and asked her to marry him. She accepted, and the two were inseparable outside of work. They married eight months later on September 1st.
In April of the following year, a riot caused Vincent to vanish for six days. Not understanding what had happened to her husband, Nik continued going to school and working so that when they found him, he could come home and not worry. (She had just finished her basic medical schooling and become a resident at a local hospital when he left for this mission.) However, Eisai and their government sponsors argued that he needed to be retained before he could be returned to society. Nik accepted and signed the paperwork, losing a whole year of her married life and concentrating solely on work and earning her doctorate.
Once Vincent had returned to her, Nik had to bounce back and forth between working towards her goal of being a doctor and rehabilitating her husband. It partially this stress that caused post-partum depression after her daughter was born, so she entrusted more of Appoline's early rearing to Vincent as she focused on her career and not doing anything foolish.( She also kept this terrifying series of emotions from him as much as possible, in part fearing that her mental health could cause a regression in his own healing.) After her second daughter came into the world four years later, Nik had successfully earned her PhD., and worked less in order to care for her children, as her spouse had fully recovered and was now returning to school.
Nakia had always been under the impression that her daughter was bullied in school, however the large amount of time she spent away from home prevented her from doing much about it. She thoroughly agreed with Vincent that should either of their daughters manifest, he should request a transfer to the United States rather than risk further incident at Eisai. When the Appoline started manifesting powers of her own, she and Vincent took the appropriate measures to ensure they could transfer without issue, and allowed their daughter to enroll in Eisai until the transfer.
Nik became the school's on-call medical doctor. While it is a pay and hours decrease, she has used this time to study for another degree and take care of her daughters (as she feels that she has neglected them for too long). During her husband's extended leave of absence, she ended up working even harder, roping her brother into taking care of things at home more often than not so she could continue to keep them in their new family home. Unbeknownst to Vincent, she had a resurgence of her depression during this time, though recovered quickly once the mental and emotional load eased once again. Now, she simply continues as she had before, relieved beyond imagining that her husband will ever lose control of his powers again.
